I started by reading the Hans Christian Andersen tale, making notes and identifying key moments of the story to illustrate using wigs. I came up with three key points, 1). when the mermaids are in the coral reef, 2). when the sea witch trades the mermaids tongue for her to walk above the sea with humans, 3). when the mermaid dies and becomes a 'daughter of the air'.
